Today's Train of Thought- Fall Colors in New England; October 13, 2009.
Today's train of thought is a timely snapshot of a shortline hard at work under the changing colors of the fall foliage in the Northeast. Here, railpictures.net contributor John Sesonske snapped this photo of Vermont Railway GP40-2 #307 leading VTR GP18 #801 and VTR GP40-2LW #311 heading south across the Walloomsac River trestle in North Hoosick, NY with a unit limestone slurry train. The train has just crossed the NY/Vermont state line on the former Rutland Railroad 'Corkscrew Line', destined for the Pan-Am Railroad (formerly Guilford/Boston & Maine Railroad) interchange a few short miles away.
Correction- it's just been brought to my attention that this technically isn't an autumnal, pastoral New England scene, since the train- despite having originated in New England and it's final destination being in New England and hauled by a New England shortline- is photographed in northern Rensselaer County, NY....less than 2 miles from the Vermont state line.
