At least 64 people are feared dead after two separate blasts ripped through the Ugandan capital city of Kampala on Sunday, including an Ethiopian restaurant packed with people watching the World Cup final. The second blast took place at a rugby club also in Kampala.
Police believe that the bombings were targeting foreigners and suspect they may have been orchestrated by Somalia's Islamic Al-Shabaab group.
Al-Shabaab seems none too enamored of soccer (or bras for that matter) so the timing of the attacks was probably by design on their part.
Ethiopia's military moved into Somalia at the end of 2006 and occupied the mostly lawless and chaotic country for more than two years. Uganda sent troops to Somalia in 2007 as part of a regional African Union Peacekeeping force and the current AMISOM (African Union Mission to Somalia) commander is a Major General with the Ugandan Army.
