Paul Harvey- "God Made A Farmer"

I know I'm about a week late with this, but this without a doubt had to be the highlight of the much ballyhooed Super Bowl Sunday TV advertisements. The two minute spot from Dodge featured a monologue from the late radio personality Paul Harvey called "God Made a Farmer". While the product did make an appearence, the emphasis was firmly placed on the individual likely to use the Dodge [or Ford or Chevy].

But now that some time has passed I figured it was worth revisiting- I did plan on waiting a few days after the Super Bowl to revisit this, but not an entire week.

Despite the expensive nature of advertising during the big game, Dodge's 2-minute ad is actually a slightly abbreviated version of a 1978 speech that Harvey gave to the Future Farmers of America. My first reaction upon seeing the ad in its entirety was "That was money well spent on Dodge's part".

"God said, "I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper and then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board." So God made a farmer.

"I need somebody with arms strong enough to rustle a calf and yet gentle enough to deliver his own grandchild. Somebody to call hogs, tame cantankerous machinery, come home hungry, have to wait lunch until his wife's done feeding visiting ladies and tell the ladies to be sure and come back real soon -- and mean it." So God made a farmer.

"God said, "I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt. And watch it die. Then dry his eyes and say, 'Maybe next year.' I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from a persimmon sprout, shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, who can make harness out of haywire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. And who, planting time and harvest season, will finish his forty-hour week by Tuesday noon, then, pain'n from 'tractor back,' put in another seventy-two hours." So God made a farmer.

"God had to have somebody willing to ride the ruts at double speed to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds and yet stop in mid-field and race to help when he sees the first smoke from a neighbor's place. So God made a farmer.

"God said, "I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bails, yet gentle enough to tame lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink-combed pullets, who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the broken leg of a meadow lark. It had to be somebody who'd plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed and rake and disc and plow and plant and tie the fleece and strain the milk and replenish the self-feeder and finish a hard week's work with a five-mile drive to church.

"Somebody who'd bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh and then sigh, and then reply, with smiling eyes, when his son says he wants to spend his life 'doing what dad does.'" So God made a farmer."

Los Angeles City Council Decides They're Not Big Fans of Freedom of Speech

Having apparently solved all of the problems facing the city of Angels, the Los Angeles City Council passed a resolution on Thursday calling for more 'diversity' in talk radio and calling on management of local TV and radio stations to limit any comments construed as racist or sexist on public airwaves.

The City Council has approved a resolution calling on local TV and radio stations to limit any “racist” and “sexist” comments on their broadcasts.

The City Council voted 13-2 to pass the resolution with a motion urging “the management of radio and television stations in Los Angeles to do everything in their power to ensure that their on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs over public airwaves in the City of Los Angeles”.

The resolution was introduced earlier this month by councilwoman Jan Perry after local talk-show hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou referred to Whitney Houston as a 'crack ho' during a February show on KFI 640 AM.

The resolution- which is largely nonbinding- reportedly gained momentum after nationally syndicated talk show host Rush Limbaugh referred to a Georgetown coed who testified before a February hearing in the House of Representatives that she spent thousands of dollars anually on birth control as a 'slut'. Limbaugh's comments led to calls of a boycott of his show's sponsors, primarily from well funded left wing groups branding themselves as 'media watchdogs'. Limbaugh's show also airs in Los Angeles on KFI.

Obama Urges Hispanics to 'Punish Enemies' in Univision Interview

This from our post-racial, post-partisan President of course.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it's gonna be harder and that's why I think it's so important that people focus on voting on November 2,” Obama said in the interview, which was taped Friday in Los Angeles.

And what 'enemies' is the Commander in Chief referring to? Al Qaeda? A nuclear Iran? The Mexican cartels and their murderous enforcers?

Gosh no, you naive rubes. He's talking about Republicans- you know, the political party that's been out of power for the last four years.

Obama sought to place blame directly on Republicans, who he said have turned on Latinos by focusing only on border security, supporting Arizona’s immigration enforcement law and opposing the Dream Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for some students and those who serve in the military.

“Those aren’t the kind of folks who represent our core American values,” Obama said of Republicans

Yes, apparently focusing on border security and enforcing this nation's laws is contrary to core American values in Obama's eyes. I mean anybody who opposes wholesome Democrat supported legislative items like 0bamacare, Card Check, Cap & Trade or another stimulus clearly hates mom, baseball, apple pie and all things American.

Let that sink in. We have a sitting president of the United States of America who is exhorting one ethnic group to 'punish their enemies', referring to other US citizens as the 'enemy'.

Nov 2nd cannot come fast enough.

Dead Air America: Anti-Capitalist Liberal Radio Network Goes Bankrupt

Guess they ran out of funds from inner-city Boy and Girls clubs to help keep them afloat.

This week just keeps getting better and better. First the election results in Massachusetts on Tuesday, and I get word of this the other day:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Air America, a politically liberal talk-radio network, said on Thursday it would cease operations and file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection to begin an orderly wind down of its business.

So a liberal media enterprise that caters to other liberals has no idea how to run a business or get any advertisers on board? Color me shocked.

I tried listening a couple of times and I can say without a doubt that going bankrupt and shutting down will undoubtedly be the high point of Air America's 5 years of existence.

Considering that conservatism in America was all but dead and buried according to Air America and their ideologically-aligned counterparts in the mainstream media this time last year, I'd say that the purportedly dead and buried American right is having a pretty good week.
