Today's Train of Thought- October 4th: The Train in Maine is Anything But Plain

Today's Train of Thought comes to us from railpictures.net contributor Kevin Andrusia. When it isn't hauling cement, steel or clay slurry, the Maine Eastern Railroad does a brisk business hauling tourists and visitors between Brunswick and Rockland Maine. It's proven to be a popular alternative to the congested, two lane US Route 1 that parallells it between the two towns. There has even been talk of expanding the current Boston- Portland, ME Amtrak Downeaster Service to Brunswick so that there's a direct passenger rail connection between the Maine Eastern and the Downeaster service.
On this tranquil September afternoon, Maine Eastern FL9 #489 (ex Amtrak 489, exx Penn Central 5021, nee New York, New Haven & Hartford 2021) is in charge of a westbound passenger train as it coasts along the banks of the Sheepscot River in Wiscasset, ME.
