May 17th marks Armed Forces Day, which was created 65 years ago under the Truman administration Prior to 1949, the Army, Navy and Air Force had their own seperate days honoring each branch.
While not as widely observed as Veteran's Day or Memorial Day, some municipalities do mark the occasion with parades- one of the longest running in the USA in in the western Washington Navy town of Bremerton. According to the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce, 2014 is the 65th year the the town has had an Armed Forces day parade
